Eco-Orchestra

The Eco-Orchestra expands the notion of musical space by placing sound into the physical outdoor environment. This greatly exaggerated spatial concept calls for the projection and delivery of sound over great distances and at dynamic levels that exceed electronic amplification. In the current work, the Eco-Orchestra is distributed spatially on a series of islands off the coast of Mount Desert Island in Maine. The spatial diameter of the work is 8 miles with a maximum distance of 4 miles from a point source on the coast. The Eco-Orchestra is an ensemble of uniquely designed and integrated acoustic sound objects ......played by performers.....no electronics. These unique Eco-Orchestra 'instruments' include compression horns, large steel plates, church bells, large organ pipes, suspended steel sheets with attached air compression drivers, etc.... The first work using the Eco-Orchestra will occur during the summer of 2013.
